Sorting through your belongings and deciding what you want to keep can be a therapeutic task, giving you a sense of control. Some of the  items you no longer use or wear could have a second life, you could sell them on or donate them to a good cause. Living in a clean and organized home can increase productivity, creativity and focus! Here are some more tips on how to organise different areas of your home…

Bedroom Organisation Tips

Keeping your bedroom organised is a great way to help you feel relaxed and can even help you sleep better! Follow these steps:
1.    Declutter – not just your clothes, but anything in your room such as furniture or home furnishings and accessories. Have you worn it in the last 12 months? Is it replaceable? What are the pros and cons of keeping it? Is it useful or in the way? Are there any items that could get more love and attention if donated or given away?
2.    Smart storage – ensure you are making the most out of your storage spaces. Invest in built-in storage, drawer dividers, baskets, underbed storage boxes or other smart storage solutions.
3.    Order – try to create orders or categories to help make sure every item has a place. For example, you could colour code your clothes, hanging items from left to right, dark to light or organize by clothing type/season.
4.    Maintain – keep your room clean and tidy, you should repeat this process every 6-12 months.  When organising it can also be a great time to clean harder to reach areas such as inside wardrobes and drawers.

Kitchen Organisation Tips

Keeping the kitchen organised is not only great for convenience, but also for safety. When food is involved, it’s important to ensure that working areas are decluttered and clean. Here are some ways to ensure your kitchen is as organised as possible:
1.    Group together - keep similar items together. For example, organise your fridge to keep condiments on the door shelves, fruit and veg in the drawers, raw meat at the bottom, cooked meat in the middle and dairy products on the top. You can also try using the FIFO (first in first out) principle, keep your freshest products towards the back and the items closest to expiry at the front.
2.    Convenience – try to keep items that you frequently use, within reach and near the front. This is also a great time to wipe out and refresh inside the fridge/inside cabinets.
3.    Storage – be smart with your storage, use vertical storage, such as tall cabinetry, to make the most of space, hang shelves or hangers on empty walls, use storage containers etc. You can also label items so you can easily identify what’s inside and don’t forget what goes where.
4.    Secret weapons – turntables and pull out shelves help to optimize space and make it more functional.

Desk Organisation Tips

A tidy, organised desk with little mess or distractions can help improve your productivity! Follow these tips to ensure your desk is the performance-driving workstation you need.
1.    Declutter – keep this space as empty as possible to help you maintain your focus with little distractions.
2.    Reach – keep things you need or use frequently within reach. This will not only increase efficiency, but it will also prevent you from over-stretching.
3.    Filing – keep on top of your paperwork, keep it organised using folders and binders. Don’t forget to recycle anything you no longer use.
4.    Storage – make use of drawers and shelves surrounding you. Consider using peg boards and drawer dividers to optimise space even more.
5.    Cable manager – use a cable to manager to reduce clutter and make it easier to find specific cables. You could also consider investing in a wireless keyboard and mouse to remove some cables altogether.

Garage Organisation Tips

The garage is a common place for items to pile up and get forgotten about. Here’s some hacks on how to optimise this space:
1.    Zones – people use garages for lots of different reasons – create zones to keep certain items and activities together. For example, you can have one corner for gym/ sports equipment, one corner for a workstation/tools and keep one corner for storage.
2.    Workbench - if using your garage for a workstation – build a workbench with shelving so you can keep your tools and any DIY mess in one space.
3.    Storage – aim to keep items off the floor and ensure everything has it’s place. There are many ways you can do this such as building shelves, hooks, vertical storage, overhead storage, storage cabinets etc. Some people even re-use old kitchen units in their garage, so a way to give your old kitchen a new life when getting a new kitchen.
4.    Storage on wheels – for items that regularly need to be transported from the house to the garage, consider investing in storage with wheels to help make this process more convenient.
5.    Clean – lots of people tend to leave their garage to acquire dust and cobwebs however this makes it an uncomfortable space to be in, so often items get dumped with little thought. Try and keep this area clean, give it a vacuum and a dust to make it a more enticing space to be in.
