Cleaning a toaster is not a tricky task, but it’s one that tends to get dropped to the bottom of the to-do list. This is your reminder to grab yourself a Marigold microfibre cloth and get the job done!
Toasters are generally used for bread or equivalent products, which are crumbly. It’s inevitable that these crumbs will fall into your toaster. However, if you don’t clean it regularly, a dirty toaster can create a burning odour and cause a burning taste on fresh foods that go into the toaster. If the crumbs continue to build up, it can also become a potential fire hazard. Not only that, but it can also affect the performance of how your toaster works, making it longer to heat up your bread.
Still not convinced that you can be bothered to clean your toaster? What if we told you that the crumbs and food residue can also attracts pests, such as ants and other small insects!
So now you’re convinced, here are some tips on how to do it!
Step 1: Always ensure the appliance is unplugged and fully cooled down, before you start to clean it.
Step 2: Empty the crumb tray by gently sliding it out and pouring the debris into the bin – or even better if you can put it into a compost bin!
Step 3: Use your Marigold Let It Shine Microfibre Cloth with some washing up liquid and warm water to wipe down the crumb tray to remove all debris. Give it a rinse and leave it to fully dry. Avoid using harsh chemicals.
Step 4: Use a pastry brush or a paint brush to gently brush out any remaining crumbs within the toaster. Do not use sharp or pointed objects to clean the inside. Alternatively you can carefully turn the toaster upside down and shake out the crumbs or blow them out with a hairdryer.
Step 5: Give the exterior of your toaster a wipe down with a damp microfibre cloth. The Marigold Squeaky Clean Flexi Microfibre Cloth is perfect if you have a stainless-steel toaster as it removes all fingerprints and smears leaving a streak-free result. Make sure the toaster is completely dry before next use.
Depending on how often your toaster gets used, determines how often you should clean it. If you’re using it daily, then you should clean it weekly. If you use it a few times per week, you should clean it fortnightly. If you only use it once per week, then you can clean it monthly. If you never use it and it’s just for decoration, then an external wipe down will suffice, once every couple of months.
